Paving the way for the future: FRIAS to benefit from state funding commitment and establish new areas of research focus
The new website signals the start of a new era of work for the Institute. From the 1st October, FRIAS will be basing its work on an extensive new concept.
Junior Fellows of the School of Soft Matter Research, theoretical physicist Dr. Florian Mintert and biophysicist Dr. Francesco Rao and their teams have researched conditions regarding quantum transport which plays an important role in photosynthesis.
The state of Baden-Württemberg has officially declared its commitment to contribute to the long-term funding of FRIAS, a step that will see it support the new concept for the institute as presented by the university. The decision was announced by Minister of Science Theresia Bauer in Stuttgart.
Four joint research groups have been selected for funding within the first joint fellowship programme of the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) and the University of Strasbourg Institute for Advanced Study (USIAS).
The volume “Interaction and Mobility. Language and the Body in Motion” (linguae & litterae 20) presents studies on interaction and mobility. The book was edited by Lorenza Mondada, former External Senior Fellow of the School of Language & Literature, together with Pentti Haddington and Maurice Nevile.
Between 2014 and 2019, the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) will receive up to 3.3 million euros for its international fellowship programme under the European Union’s (EU) Marie Curie COFUND scheme.
