FRIAS Fellow Andrew Port with his family
|
Supporting and improving the compatibility of family and career are important matters of concern at FRIAS. Many fellows come to FRIAS with partners and children. The FRIAS administration develops individually-tailored solutions for each individual academic. The aim of these efforts is to create dependable structures which allow researchers a high degree of mobility and flexibility and contribute to making family and career more compatible for both men and women:
- When arranging and allocating accommodation for external fellows, the specific needs of fellows with partners and/or children are taken into account.
- As far as it is able to do so, FRIAS actively supports dual career couples. In this connection, FRIAS works with the university’s Dual Career Service.
- Fellows receive individual support in searching for suitable schools, nurseries and other care options. In order to provide this support, the FRIAS administration works together with the University of Freiburg's Family Service.
-
To assist in the integration into German social life, Marie-S.-Curie-FCFP-Fellows can use their individual training allowance to join German language courses. Spouses are supported by FRIAS with up to 50% of the costs (for up to half of the fellowship time and for fellowship periods of at least 6 months). The courses are run by the Language Teaching Centre of the University (Sprachlehrinstitut, SLI, at http://www.sli.uni-freiburg.de/german) or the Volkshochschule Freiburg (https://vhs-freiburg.de).
- Where necessary, childcare is guaranteed at all academic events.
- In principle, all the cultural activities organised by FRIAS (walks, theatre visits, city tours, etc.) are also aimed at the partners and/or children of fellows.
