FRIAS for Junior Researchers and students

FRIAS supports junior researchers and students in multiple ways and spends approximately 40% of its budget for the support of early career researchers. The FRIAS Junior Fellowship program offers young researchers the possibility to pursue their research interests in an inspiring environment, enabling them to expand their networks with established researchers present at FRIAS.

All academic events and activities are open to students and junior researchers. Further information on all FRIAS-events

Lunch Lectures

With the Lunch Lectures, FRIAS has established a forum in which FRIAS Fellows regularly present their research to Bachelor and Master students. Every second Thursday, these lectures will take place in lecture hall HS 1015 in the Kollegiengebäude I (KG I) from 12:15 - 1 p.m. The aim of this lecture series is to offer both undergraduate and graduate students and, essentially, everyone interested a first-hand account of the research projects of the current External Fellows at FRIAS.

Junior Fellowships

This programme is intended for outstanding junior researchers at the University of Freiburg (all disciplines, minimum requirement: doctorate). Junior fellowships are held for ten months.

The group deals with Global Transformations of Catholicism and analyzes the changes the new religious world map means for the thinking and the practice of the organization itself. FRIAS finances the PhD positions and research funds and the Theological Faculty funds the junior professorship with a tenure track option.

The programme is a joint initiative between FRIAS and the University of Strasbourg Institute for Advanced Study (USIAS). Funding is granted to research groups comprising of academics from the universities of Freiburg and Strasbourg and, on some occasions, scholars from other universities. Successful projects are funded for two years. The project partners can apply for a two-year postdoc position and receive additional research funds of up to 60.000 €.
