Jürgen Osterhammel receives Bavarian Maximilian Order

FRIAS Distinguished Fellow Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jürgen Osterhammel was awarded the Bavarian Maximilian Order for Science and Art (Bayerischer Maximiliansorden für Wissenschaft und Kunst). The award ceremony took place on 26 July 2023 in the Antiquarium of the Munich Residence.

With this Order, the Bavarian Minister President awards outstanding achievements in the fields of arts and sciences. The number of living recipients is limited to 100.

Osterhammel is currently conducting the Balzan-FRIAS Project in Global History in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Stefanie Gänger (University of Heidelberg). The project aims to explore the intellectual foundations of global history. Together with Harvard emeritus professor Akira Iriye, Jürgen Osterhammel is also in charge of the collected edition of "History of the World" (C.H. Beck/Harvard University Press). A few weeks ago, the sixth volume in this series was published, titled "600-1350, Divided Worlds".
