FRIAS presents Fellowship Programme 2024/25
About 40 to 50 fellows from all nations and disciplines stay at Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies each year to work on their research projects and to network with colleagues from all over the world. A fellowship at FRIAS is considered a special distinction due to the competitive and strictly merit-based selection process.
For the Academic Year 2024/25 (September 2024 to August 2025), FRIAS offers 4- to 10-month fellowships for postdoctoral researchers with up to eight years of research experience after completion of the PhD (Early Career Fellowships) and 3- to 10-month fellowships for scientists with doctoral and postdoctoral degrees and more than eight years of research experience after PhD (Senior Fellowships). In addition, the FRIAS Sustainable Governance Fellowship for Researchers from Africa will strengthen the exchange with the Global South. This programme is available to researchers from all nationalities, who are based in Africa, exclusively from disciplines in the humanities and social sciences.
FRIAS opens for applicants from German universities
The calls for applications for Early Career and Senior Fellowships are open to postdoctoral researchers as well as for full professors of all nationalities and research disciplines. In comparison to the programmes of previous years, researchers from other German universities and research institutions can also apply for a FRIAS Fellowship in the same procedure, in addition to researchers from all over the world and from the University of Freiburg. Senior and Early Career Fellowships are distinguished by opportunities for representation at the home institution.

Application deadline
The application deadline for the FRIAS Early Career Fellowships and FRIAS Senior Fellowships is September 15, 2023. For the FRIAS Sustainable Governance Fellowship Programme for Researchers from Africa, applications are possible until September 28, 2023.
