Tobias Schaetz and Spiros Skourtis will prepare a 20-minutes presentations on Comparing great actors performing great tragedies (Macbeth & the Merchant of Venice)
Great tragedies are very difficult to deliver even for great actors.
It is very nice to focus on a great tragic monologue and to compare how different great actors deliver it.
To convince you of the beauty of the exercise, we will do the following
comparisons:
(1) Macbeth's "Tomorrow & Tomorrow" Speech (Orson Welles vs Jon Finch (in Polanski's version) vs Ian McKellen vs Patrick Stuart)
(2) Shylock's famous monologue in "The merchant of Venice"
(Al Pacino vs Orson Welles)
Then we will take a vote for the best performances in (1) and (2)
For all of you interested in it, the AHC will be followed by the full play William Shakespeare's Macbeth [1978] by Philip Casson with Ian McKellen, Judi Dench.
