Start of the third round of FRIAS Lunch Lectures in the summer term 2015, with a focus on Southeast Asia
This semester, the focus of the lectures will be on Southeast Asia. Researchers from Europe, Southeast Asia and Australia, who have come to Freiburg for a FRIAS fellowship, will present their research topics – all of them dealing with Southeast Asia from different academic perspectives. In this way, a lecture about the party system fragmentation in Indonesia will be followed by another lecture about state funerals in Thailand or the Chinese community in Singapore. The first lecture will be held by Prof Joseph Capuno from the University of the Philippines, who will introduce his research project on “Disparities in local development and political competition in the Philippines” on April 23.
The aim of this lecture series is to offer both undergraduate and graduate students and, essentially, everyone interested a first-hand account of current FRIAS-Fellows' research projects. Thus, content and mode of presentation of these lectures is designed to meet the interests and needs of a wider audience. The Fellows’ fields of research and, specifically, their research projects at FRIAS, will clearly stand at the centre of each lecture, but research topics of related interest and more general issues of conducting science may also be addressed (if not in the lecture, then in the ensuing discussion).
