Nektarios Tavernarakis elected new ERC Vice President

Life scientist and designated FRESCO Fellow Prof. Dr. Nektarios Tavernarakis has been elected vice president of the European Research Council. Alongside his new colleague Prof. Andrzej Jajszczyk, he will take up his duties on January 1st, 2021. They will be responsible for the domains of Life Sciences respectively Physical and Engineering Sciences and join their colleague Prof. Eveline Crone (Social Sciences and Humanities).

Nektarios Tavernarakis is Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) and Professor of Molecular Systems Biology at the Medical School of the University of Crete, Heraklion. Beginning in summer 2021, Prof. Tavernarakis will be Fellow within the new Freiburg Research Collaboration Programme (FRESCO) and become a member of the FRIAS community. He will establish a lasting co-operation with his host Prof. Ralf Baumeister (ExcCluster BIOSS/CiBSS, Bioinformatics and Molecular Genetics). His first research stays in Freiburg are planned for August and November 2021. Further visits will take place until 2025.
