Session topic: Novel approaches to tackle cancer

Topic S. Minguet:
Rational design of novel immunotherapies against cancer
tba.

Topic L. Alpsoy:
A cryogel bead based platform for multiplex analysis of proteins

Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay is commonly used to detect biomolecules for clinical diagnoses and biochemical analysis. However, it still requires a longer analysis time and a higher sample volume, and it has a lack of multiplexing capability. Recently, bead-based immunoassay has emerged as an alternative to ELISA tests. Bead-based immunoassay possesses many advantages like rapid analysis, easy production step, and required small sample volume. It also enables us to do multiplex analysis in which several proteins could be detected in a single well.

Recently, trend in medical diagnostics is towards personalized medicine. We have different genes, diets and exercise programs which determine our biological traits and health status but when we get sick, we will receive the same medical treatment. Each patient reacts differently to a drug, some might have a strong positive effect, whereas in others the same drug might not work or only the negative side-effects are occurring. But for personalized medicine lots of samples have to be analyzed. In this case, bead-based immunoassays enable us to make multiple assays in a single well.

In this seminar I would like to present a new cryogel beads platform for multiplex analysis of proteins and also a model experiment.
