In this talk, FRIAS Junior Fellows Maria Asplund (Electrical Engineer) and Karen Lienkamp (Polymer Chemist) describe how they build up their Junior Research Groups in a shared laboratory at IMTEK. While both groups had to fit into only 80 m² of lab space, this "joint residence" led to many synergetic effects, not only in terms of sharing instruments and other resources, but also helped solve many problems, from the "how do I connect this cable" level to complicated experimental issues. Meanwhile, in the true spirit of the FRIAS institute, this has led to joint projects and other trans-group activities.
