"Structure and dynamics of biological macromolecules in cellular environments from computer simulations"
Structure and dynamics of biological macromolecules in cellular environments from computer simulationsThe dynamics of biological macromolecules, proteins and nucleic acids, is a key part for understanding their biological function. The application of molecular dynamics simulations allows detailed atomistic insights on nanosecond-millisecond time scales. Examples of recent work from our group involve studies of membrane-bound peptides using new implicit membrane formalisms, the investigation of cellular crowding effects on and by proteins and nucleic acids, and complex mechanistic details of DNA-binding molecular machines. The application of molecular dynamics simulations in the context of protein structure refinement will also be discussed briefly.
