Session Topic: Two Millennium Prize Problems in Mathematics

The seven Millennium Prize Problems are guiding lights in the 21st century development of mathematics. Of the seven, only one (the Poincare Conjecture) has been solved (by Gregory Perelman, building upon the work of Richard Hamilton). We will give a general-audience introduction to the two problems (of the remaining six) that are most directly related to our work. We will explain what they say, and why they are important.

Topic Michał Wrochna - The Yang–Mills existence and mass gap problem, or why particles exist

Topic Colleen Robles - The Hodge Conjecture - a subtle and tantalizing relationship between geometry and arithmetic
