Intertwined biological circuits connect the biosynthesis of cofactors
Vitamins and cofactors are essential molecules enabling a wide range of biochemical processes. The synthesis of these molecules involves complex schemes requiring multiple enzymes and reaction intermediates which are often shared across pathways. This metabolic layout connects distinct cellular processes and provides a mechanism for regulation. Using a combination of genetic, biochemical, and analytical approaches, we have investigated nutritional and physiological factors affecting the synthesis of sulfur‐containing cofactors and their functions in bacteria.
