A Global History of Gynaecological Surgeries

GynSurgeHist is an intercultural and interdisciplinary medical history of modern gynaecological surgeries such hysterectomy, ovariectomy and salpingectomy, tracing how these emerged in several European medical contexts of the late nineteenth century and how techniques and concepts of them spread throughout Africa, Asia, North America, Australasia and the Pacific in the twentieth century through international pressures and exchanges of knowledge, with enduring legacies into the present. It also historicises the growth of anti-gynaecology and anti-hysterectomy discourses emerging in the late twentieth century, investigating how these movements have impacted global medical practices.
