The Current Crisis of Global History
In recent years, Global History has been one of the more successful emerging subfields in historical studies world-wide, receiving a good deal of attention not least beyond academia. FRIAS has decided to host a "Balzan-FRIAS Project in Global History" running until 2022. One of its purposes is to throw a critical light on Global History's strengths and weaknesses. The lecture will focus on the costs of success - overextension, sloppy arguments and unasked questions. Some of the issues to be addressed will also be pertinent for global studies in a broader sense.
