The first meeting between the US President Donald Trump and the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on one side, and the nomination of David Friedman as the new US ambassador to Israel, on the other, might suggest a new American approach towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. If Washington increases its support for the on-going growth of Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, the two-State solution risks to become unattainable once for all. This seminar aims at enquiring to what extent this trend is unfolding, while examining other developments, which are heavily influencing the conflict, as well: the enduring division within the Palestinian politics between Hamas and Fatah; a Middle East characterised by turmoil, civil wars, jihadi terrorist groups and the Shia-Sunni rift; a securitization mentality increasingly spreading all over Europe.
