A New Approach to History: Looking back at the Inauguration of the Balzan FRIAS-Project in Global History
On February 13, 2020, the Balzan FRIAS-Project in Global History, led by Professor Jürgen Osterhammel and Professor Stefanie Gänger, was officially inaugurated. On this occasion, Osterhammel and his co-editors Professor Christof Dejung (Bern) and Professor David Motadel (London) presented their volume "The Global Bourgeoisie: The Rise of the Middle Classes in the Age of Empire" (2019) and discussed about bringing together approaches from both social and global history.
Dorothea Wagner elected as Chairwoman of the German Science Council
Dorothea Wagner, professor of informatics at the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT) and member of the FRIAS Scientific Advisory Board, was elected to the office of chairwoman of the German Science Council. FRIAS cordially congratulates!
Today's "Freiburger Horizonte" Lecture: Hans von Storch on Climate Models
In our lecture series "Freiburger Horizonte", Professor em. Dr. Hans von Storch, meteorologist and head of the institute for coastal research (Helmholtz Centre Geesthacht) talks tonight about climate models. He will concentrate on different types of models and their application as well as their intentions. His main aim is to discuss what kind of knowledge each model generates and for what reason.
