FRIAS Research Foci

 Forschen am FRIASThe research foci define specific thematic fields on which a number of fellowships concentrate for a limited period of time. Funding is directed at research fields in which the University of Freiburg excels, the objective being to enhance these selected areas further for greater international exposure. This is an effective way of promoting specific research strengths in Freiburg. 

Research foci are composed of up to 10 fellows from Freiburg and abroad. Fellows pursue their own project, which is situated within the thematic field of the research focus. Regular colloquia as well as joint academic events and research activities promote intensive discussions within this group of fellows.

For an application the work of a research group has to be characterized by outstanding academic performance and have ideally already achieved international visibility.

Eligible for application are teams of three to four full-time professors or junior professors of the University of Freiburg. The programme is open for topics from all academic disciplines represented at the University of Freiburg.

The first call for applications for researcher from the Universität Freiburg involving external researchers started in 2013. Up to two research foci can be funded per academic year.
