Official opening: Young Academy for Sustainability Research (YAS)

On October 28^th, 2021, FRIAS will officially launch the new Young Academy for Sustainability Research, funded by the Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation. The Academy is made up of postdocs from a wide variety of disciplines and aims to promote scientific, in particular interdisciplinary, discourse as well as initiatives at the interfaces between science and society in the field of sustainability.

At the opening event the members of the academy will be officially introduced and welcomed. The event will include greetings by Minister Thekla Walker (Ministry of the environment, climate protection and Energy sector BW), Rector Prof. Dr. Krieglstein (University of Freiburg) and mayor Prof. Dr. Martin Haag (city of Freiburg) and and FRIAS Director Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Bernd Kortmann. Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Klaus Töpfer (Federal Minister, ret.) will give a keynote speech, and academy members will discuss with representatives of the city of Freiburg and senior experts on “Transformative Cities”. FRIAS’ artist in residence Katrin von Lehmann and Prof. Dr. Veronika Lipphardt will talk about the connection between art and science. Vice-rector Prof. Dr. Daniela Kleinschmit (University of Freiburg) will lead through the evening; the programme will be accompanied by live music by jazz, folk and indie musician Veronika Mannhardt.
