Human Remains in University Collections - Comparison and Entanglements

Workshop aims: This workshop provides an informal setting in which those involved in addressing the challenges and complexities of university collections of human remains and memories cultures can meet informally to share knowledge and compare experiences. We will explore similarities and differences both in the collections (origins, aims, scope, etc.) and in how universities deal with them today. We will draw particular attention to connections and entanglements between them (e.g. via the sort of collectors involved, transfers from one collection to the other, the "market" of human remains in historical times, but also on the topical issue of remembrance today). If of interest to participants, we will discuss possible joint research projects, publication plans, and possible future convenings.
