Economic and Global History: Challenges and Research Perspectives.

Prof. Dr. Harold James is a specialist in economic history of the 19th through the 21st centuries, with his recent book on "Seven Crashes: The Economic Crises That Shaped Globalization" (2023).

Prof. Dr. Jürgen Osterhammel has a research focus on Global History and has just finished editing six volumes of "History of the World" (2012–2023).

How do, from their perspectives, globalization and global history relate to each other? How do economic and national history, political and social history interact in a global perspective? How is writing a global history of the modern era – or even of earlier periods – possible beyond national perspectives, and how would this possibly fail? What are our future research needs? Jürgen Osterhammel and Harold James will provide brief insights and discuss the mentioned topics among themselves and with the audience.
