Resistance and Power
I will begin with an overview of the origins of electrical resistance in metals and contacts/electrodes used in electronics. Then I will discuss my own research on minimizing this resistance. Next, I will discuss the effect of this resistance on computing, efficient delivery of electrical power, and energy conversion. There are many consequences of this work for the delivery of clean power, and affordable and sustainable energy are ultimately required to reduce climate change. Finally, we can briefly consider societal resistance to implementing engineering solutions for clean power.
