Workshop: Writing and Recieving Letters of Recommendation

Within academia, many grants, fellowship, and job opportunities require letters of recommendation, but unfortunately national cultures and disciplinary conventions vary widely. In this online FRIAS Alumni Club workshop, we will briefly discuss the political economy of letters of recommendation and the purpose they serve within academic cultures. We will give tips for how to write a good letter of recommendation that will get a candidate noticed in a pile of applications.

For junior scholars, we will also discuss how to solicit strong letters of recommendation from senior scholars and how to make their lives less complicated given the overwhelming number of requests that senior scholars receive.

Speakers:

Prof. Kristen Ghodsee, University of Pennsylvania, USA

Prof. Sabine Hake, University of Texas, Austin, USA
