The international conference aims at examining a key constellation in modern European philosophy, namely, the relation between M. Heidegger and F.W.J. Schelling. Specifically, the conference addresses the question in what way Heidegger's repeated re-readings of Schelling, spanning more than 30 years, are significant for the development of his own thought (his 'Denkweg'). Can we indeed show that Heidegger productively incorporates and 'translates' impulses from Schelling's philosophy into his own thought? Can we even determine an 'influence' by Schelling on the development of Heidegger's thought? The conference sets out to discuss these and related questions, starting from Heidegger's explicit interpretations of Schelling, with respect to key concepts such as being, ground, and nonground. We will thereby also address methodological issues of reception and influence, as well as the historical context of Heidegger's encounter with Schelling, namely the figuration of an 'End of Metaphysics'. The conference sets out to approach these topics in a productive and cooperative spirit. In doing so, we intend to contribute to a clarification of continuities and discontinuities in European philosophy over the course of the last 200 years.
