Responsible AI: Normative aspects of the interaction of humans and intelligent systems

Recent technological advances and the convergence of machine learning, (micro)sensors, robotics and other fields enable the development of new artificial intelligence (AI) systems for research, medicine and many other domains. This innovation dynamics  will enable the creation of AI decision-support systems, e.g in diagnostics and therapy, as well as intelligent robots, e.g. social robots in psychiatry, will lead to new forms of human-technology interaction that may require specialized skills and an understanding of the underlying technology by different professions ans practicioners in medicine. Yet, the emerging fields that study human-AI and/or human-robot interaction are rarely in transdisciplinary conversations with traditional stakeholders in medicine.

In this workshop, we will bring together experts on human-technology interaction, interface design and design thinking (Dr. Diana Löffler, Dr. Matthias Laschke, both University of Siegen) with medical doctors and researchers, roboticists, computer scientists, neuroscientists, psychologists and other specialists from the University of Freiburg to explore the challenges and priorities in understanding and working with AI systems from a the perspective of user experience design.
