In December 2015 (03.-04.12.2015), the research training group “Frequency Effects in Language” and the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) will be hosting a workshop titled “Oral History Meets Linguistics”. Oral history archives offer many possibilities for language-related analyses. So far, however, they have been used in linguistics only to a limited extent. The workshop aims at bringing together linguistic approaches to oral histories in different target languages and discussing possibilities for a closer collaboration between linguists and oral historians. Potential questions include: What can linguistic uses of historical narratives look like? What are opportunities and challenges of using such archives in linguistic research? In what ways could oral historians profit from a closer collaboration? Which archives as yet undetected by linguists could be used for future research?
Collaboration between FRIAS and the Graduiertenkolleg 1624 "Frequenzeffekte in der Sprache".
