LifeNet Discussion Meeting: Proteostasis

The Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) organizes the

FRIAS LifeNet Discussion Meeting on Proteostasis

from September 29th-October 1st, 2013 to be held in Breisach, Germany.
For decades, scientists were fascinated by protein synthesis trying to outline the central dogma of molecular biology on how a protein can be synthesized from DNA encoded information. With the discovery of the ubiquitin-proteasome system and the molecular machinery involved in autophagy also protein degradation became an intensive field of research. The interdisciplinary workshop will focus on exploring new opportunities made possible by recent developments in mass spectrometry-based proteomics to study protein turnover, synthesis and degradation. Specifically, the experimental elucidation of underlying molecular mechanisms and respective signaling events will be discussed. We bring together cell/molecular biological, theoretical as well as technical experts to address questions related to protein turnover, the ubiquitin-proteasome system, the autophagosomal-lysosomal system, and their crosstalk.
