FRIAS-USIAS Alumnus Ralf Reski has cultivated peat moss for measuring air quality
Every day, citizens of Freiburg can inform themselves about the quality of the air in their city on an electronic scoreboard. The information on airborne pollutants such as heavy metal concentrations, nitrogen and sulfur oxides are measured with the help of technical measurement systems. The disadvantage of these systems is that they need electronic power and are not mobile. Already since 1996, a continuous monitoring of air pollution is mandatory within the EU.
Two FRIAS researchers received award for outstanding achievements
Two researchers with close ties to FRIAS recently received awards for their outstanding scientific achievements. Dr. Dorothee Birke, FRIAS Junior Fellow from 2008-2014, was awarded with the Helene-Richter Award of the German Anglistic Association. Dr. des. Simone Müller, who is currently working at FRIAS as a member of the project group “A Green City Mandate”, received the Maria Gräfin von Linden Award of the Association of Female Scientists in Baden-Württemberg.
Conference Report “Dynamic Alignments and Dealignments in Global Southeast Asia”
On 24-26 June 2015, the interdisciplinary research focus group “Dynamic Alignments and Dealignments in Global Southeast Asia” from the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) organized a conference which studied Southeast Asia’s cooperation cultures.
