From Heteroacenes to Cruciform Fluorophores
We show in this talk that larger acenes can be stabilized by introduction of pyrazine groups into the molecular scaffold. The introduction of these heteroatoms decreases the acenes' proclivity for Diels-Alder reactions and makes them resistant to oxidation. At the same time reduction becomes easier, making the heteroacenes potentially attractive targets for organic electronic applications.
In the second part of the talk the photophysical properties of a novel class of compounds (Cruciforms) is explored and their use as reactive fluorophores is illuminated. The materials are operationally functional sensory cores for amines, carboxylic acids and metal salts.
