Natural and Artificial Biohybrid Materials for Biological and Technical Applications
The symbiosis of modern organic chemistry with synthetic biology opens up new avenues to novel materials on the one hand and new tools to investigate complex biological system on the other. In the frame of this talk I will present strategies to engineer new protein functions (also employing the in vivo incorporation of genetically encoded unnatural amino acids), protein assemblies and complex biomimetic systems. The latter are based on the supramolecular assembly of multifunctional building blocks including biomimetic membranes for dynamic epitope presentation. The presented strategies, molecules and systems allow access to new applications in material science, bionanotechnology and systems biology.
