Nanostructured Block Copolymer Films with Potential Applications in Organic Solar Cells
Many technological applications such as nanoelectronics, energy conversion and energy storage require the preparation of nanostructured polymer and hybrid films. My research team is currently working on the manipulation of novel materials which can potentially be used as photoactive layers in organic solar cells via a hierarchical approach: on the molecular scale we use smart chemical synthesis and on the mesoscopic scale block copolymer self-assembly to manufacture layers with well-defined structures on the nanometre length scale. Via combining hole conducting polymers with electron conducting inorganic moieties we ultimately aim to build nanostructured hybrid solar cells. Cyclic voltammetry measurements combined with in-situ conductance measurements and in-situ spectroscopy are used to identify ideal material combinations for optoelectronic applications.
