Guaranteed model invalidation, estimation, and qualitative-quantitative modeling in systems biology
Modelling biological systems typically leads to multiple hypotheses in the form of mathematical models with unknown parameters. In turn, hypotheses are invalid if the corresponding model does not allow one to describe the observations. In this talk a new approach for model invalidation, parameter estimation and qualitative-quantitative modeling for biochemical reaction networks is outlined. The estimation problem is reformulated as a feasibility problem, allowing one to include qualitative and uncertain quantitative data. Thus, the method still allows for conclusive answers. The approach is underlined considering various biological examples including hypotheses for perfect adaptation in phototaxis and for various growth mechanisms for cell growth in vaccination production.
