Role of ADAM17/EGFR and ADAM10/Notch signaling in angiogenesis
The goal of my lab is to understand the function of cell surface metalloproteinases termed ADAMs (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase) in development and disease. ADAMs have emerged as critical modulators of cell-cell interactions. They regulate the bioavailability of membrane proteins such as the pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF-alpha and ligands of the EGF-receptor, and are required for cell fate decision that depend on cell surface receptors of the Notch family. I will present studies employing a combination of biochemical and cell biological approaches as well as mouse models to elucidate the role of ADAMs in EGF-receptor signaling and in Notch signaling in developmental angiogenesis and pathological neovascularization.
