Within the BMBF funded Nephage consortium, Martin Klose uses a systems biology approach to understand molecular processes of ageing in the kidney through the in vitro study of podocytes, the most vulnerable cell type. Based on high-throughput analysis of primary podocytes, comparison with other organisms like Drosophila flies and C. elegans worms and signaling pathway analysis, he investigates the dynamic response and compensation processes in young and old immortalized podocyte strains. This will provide a complementary and well standardized system to reveal the processes of kidney ageing.
