The application should include the following:

1. Title of the project

Maximum 100 characters, including spaces.

2. Proposed research project and collaborative activities

A short description of the research questions that will be addressed and an outline of the work programme, emphasizing the visionary and interdisciplinary qualities of the project. The proposal should state the requested funding (max. 50,000 EUR for a period of up to 12 months), and outline how the funding will be used by providing a concise budget plan (tabular format). Please explain how the project will strengthen integrative biological signalling research at the University of Freiburg, and mention the intended outcomes of the collaboration (e.g. joint publications or applications for further third-party funding).

This section of the application should not exceed 3 pages, including the bibliography.

3. Curricula vitae for each member of the applicant group

Maximum 3 researchers, at least one of whom must be a full-time professor or group leader at the University of Freiburg.

CVs should include the name, position, institution, address, telephone number and e-mail address of the applicant, and should not exceed 2 pages per applicant.

Applications should be written in English and submitted as a single PDF. Please use Arial font size 11. The document should be single-spaced and have a standard page layout (minimum margin size 2.0 cm).


Selection procedure

The selection under the programme is competitive and merit-based. An academic selection panel including members of the Freiburg life sciences community and representatives of FRIAS will evaluate and select the projects to be funded on the basis of peer review according to the following evaluation criteria and weighting:

  • Academic qualification of the applicants (40%)
  • Academic quality and originality of the project (in terms of quality, topic, perspective and methodology, originality, significance and feasibility) (40%)
  • Potential of the project to strengthen networking and exchange of knowledge and technologies in the trinational Upper Rhine area and to promote the international visibility of signaling research at the University of Freiburg (20%)



The deadline for applications was June 3, 2018.

Selection decisions will be announced in July, 2018.

Activities of the supported teams should start October 1, 2018.
