Workshop Announcement

The workshop offers a forum for the newest developments in the fabrication of structures, devices and systems in soft matter, from the micrometer to the nanometer range. The presentations will cover:
(i) soft functional materials with no scale limitations, including molecular design and soft materials synthesis (molecular & supramolecular materials, nanocrystals, polymers, carbon nanostructures and nanoparticles, DNA, biomaterials, hybrids).
(ii) self-assembly in the micro- to nanometre range including DNA-origami, alternative lithography methods, and the fabrication and processing of soft materials into functional devices (MEMs, FETs, Solar Cells, OLEDs, Sensors).
There will be 24 oral presentations by internationally recognized experts. All speakers are by invitation only. The workshop additionally features two evening poster sessions where workshop attendees can present and informally discuss their research results. The workshop can only accomodate a limited number of attendees, and registration will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis.

Call for papers:

We would like to bring your attention to the Journal of Materials Chemistry web-based thematic issue “FRIAS - Black Forest Focus on Soft Matter”. The issue will consist of a series of articles (communications, full-papers, features, highlights) by invited scientists and meeting participants in the fields covered by the workshop (above).
If you are interested in having work considered for this web themed issue or need additional information please contact Aurelio Mateo-Alonso (amateo@frias.uni-freiburg.de).
All manuscripts will be processed in the usual manner, including peer review. Articles can be submitted anytime from now until 30th August 2010 using RSC’s online submission system. We encourage you, however, to submit your manuscript as early as possible. Please add the phrase, invited article for FRIAS - Black Forest Focus on Soft Matter, in the field comments to the editor.
