Ethics in Review Processes
The Peer Review systems concerns scholars across all disciplines and at all career stages. It serves as an institutionalised feedback and control loop. As such, it can offer a productive way of escaping academic solipsism as well as the opportunity to learn for both the reviewed as well as the reviewer.
Regrettably, we know that this is an ideal. Reviewers are feared for crossing borders in tone or content of their criticism. This is especially grave in the reviewing of grant applications.
How can scholars deal with unjust reviews? And how could Peer Review as a system be improved to prevent abuse? Which ethical aspects should researchers be aware of when writing a review?
