Seeing climate change in our research: why we are all “climate change researchers” now
Led by Prof. Lauren Rickards, IPCC author, Director of the La Trobe Climate Change Adaptation Lab, and FRIAS FRESCO Fellow 2023-2025
Climate change is increasingly impacting all aspects of our lives, including the physical, ecological, social, and economic systems we are part of and work in.
While only a few of us may identify as doing research “on” climate change, all of us are now climate change researchers in the sense that climate change is rapidly altering both the world we are studying and our own world of research.
The purpose of this workshop is to stimulate new insights about how climate change relates to our research by introducing participants to an innovative new way of thinkingabout it.
Beginning with a presentation by Prof. Lauren Rickards, participants will then have a chance to explore the challenges climate change increasingly poses to their research design and research questions, fieldwork, theoretical frameworks, ethics, funding, research impact, as well as to all of us as research workers.
Ultimately, the workshop will improve our understanding of how our research is part of the world and what we can do to adapt it to reduce negative impacts and amplify positive opportunities.
