Objectivity
What is „Objectivity“?
The Cambridge Dictionary offers three definitions for the term:
1. "the fact of being based on facts and not influenced by personal beliefs or feelings"
2. "the state or quality of being objective and fair"
3. "the quality of being able to make a decision or judgment in a fair way that is not influenced by personal feelings or beliefs"
But what does "objectivity" mean regarding science and research? How do we deal with the ideal and the inadvertible shortcomings in reaching it? How is the concept adressed in different scientific disciplines and cultures and what can we do to promote objectivity?
