W AI T : What is Artificial Intelligence?
Despite widespread agreement that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is beginning to fundamentally change the world we live in, there is no clear understanding of how it will do so. In fact, there are widely divergent answers even to the most basic question: what is AI? In my presentation, I categorize the common definitions and discuss their limitations from a philosophical perspective. I then give reasons for and put up for discussion the hypothesis that AI is best understood in its unique relation to the world we live in.
