How do we make sense of speech?
This talk addresses the issue of how humans process ordinary spoken language in real time, despite obvious limitations of working memory in both capacity and duration. Listeners manage to make sense of fast-flowing speech input before new input continues to come in. Apparently they segment the auditory speech flow into manageable, meaningful chunks, which then get processed further. The approach combines insights from linguistic theory, cognitive science and neuroimaging.
