CV

Sauro Succi serves as a Research Director at the Istituto dei Sistemi Complessi of the National Research Council and as a Research Associate to the Physics Department at Harvard University. He earned a degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Bologna and a PhD in plasma physics from the Swiss Polytechnic Institute in Lausanne (1987). Dr Succi's research deals with the mathematical and computational modeling of complex system dynamics, with special focus on classical and quantum flows across scales. He has published over 200 papers in the scientific literature and he has authored a monograph "Lattice Boltzmann Equation for Fluid Dynamics and Beyond", Oxford U.P., 2001. Dr Succi has been holding visiting appointments at the University of Paris , Chicago, Yale, Scuola Normale di Pisa, Queen Mary College of London, Tufts University, Initiative on Innovative Computing at Harvard, Swiss Polytech Institute Zuerich. Dr Succi is a Fellow of the American Physical Society, and the recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt Award in physics, the Killam Award of the University of Calgary and he held the Distinguished Annual Lecture at the University of Leicester (2006). Since 2009, Dr Succi is a Fellow of the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS).

FRIAS Project

I shall develop innovative multiscale techniques for the numerical simulation of a broad class of problems involving the dynamics of complex flows across many scales of motion. Among others, I shall focus our attention on the simulation of biopolymer translocation across biological membranes, gas flows across carbon nanotubes and the rheology of micro-emulsions.
