Ehrendoktorwürde der Universität Uppsala für Hans Joas

Hans Joas, Permanent Fellow der FRIAS School of History, hat am 25. Januar 2013 die Ehrendoktorwürde der Sozialwissenschaftlichen Fakultät der Universität Uppsala/Schweden erhalten.

In der Begründung der Fakultät für die Auszeichnung heißt es: “Joas has made groundbreaking contributions to social theory and sociological theory and is the author of a number of works that are regarded as modern classics, including The Creativity of Action. Examples of his research fields are the role of religions in modern societies, historical social research, the origins of values and norms, and the history of human rights. He is one of the most active participants in academic and public debates.”

Seit April 2011 forscht Hans Joas an der FRIAS School of History. Gleichzeitig ist er Professor für Soziologie an der University of Chicago, deren Committee on Social Thought er seit 2000 angehört. Im März 2013 erscheint bei Georgetown University Press die englische Übersetzung seiner Studie zur Genealogie der Menschenrechte unter dem Titel: “The Sacredness of the Person. A New Genealogy of Human Rights”.
