EXCELLENT RESEARCH

With the Saltus!-Programme, the University of Freiburg particularly supports research projects from the interdisciplinary profile and emerging fields of the university, which are characterized by excellent scientific performance and great innovation potential. As part of the university's overall strategy, the Saltus!-Programme represents substantial project funding for research at the university. The Eva Mayr-Stihl Foundation specifically supports Saltus!-Groups in the profile field “Environment and Sustainability” of the University of Freiburg. The funding aims to further develop this profile field and increase its national and international visibility. The Saltus!-Group serves primarily to stimulate new collaborative research (special research areas, clusters of excellence, etc.).

SALTUS!-GROUP "DESING OF INTERFACES AND INTERPHASES IN ENERGY MATERIALS"

The research group "Design of interfaces and interphases in energy materials" aims to develop novel interfaces and boundary phases for materials that are used for energy generation, conversion or storage, such as solar cells, batteries and fuel cells.

Areas and phases control, for example, charge transfer or electrochemical reactions: interfaces seal off areas with opposing charge carriers, while boundary phases form a transition area in which charge carriers such as ions can move freely. The boundary layers have a decisive influence on the service life and performance of such applications.

The funding period runs from January 1, 2021 to March 31, 2023.
