The main goal of the conference is to open up the significance and the implications of the phenomenological conception of affectivity and animality for current debates in animal ethics, in gender and media theories as well as for many relevant sets of problems in neuroscientific and psychiatric-psychopathological research.

The conference is divided in two main parts: The first one will consist of two days of lectures (Nov 17th and 18th) followed by discussion. On Saturday, Nov 19th from 10 a.m. till 13 p.m., a workshop will take place, during which we will discuss with Prof. D.F.Krell his latest book Derrida and Our Animal Others. Derrida’s Final Seminar, the Beast and the Sovereign (2013). Derrida’s two latest seminars The Beast and the Sovereign, will also constitute the theoretical background for our discussion. Student participation both for the conference and for the workshop is welcome.
