Benjamin Schuetze ist Fellow der Jungen Akademie für Nachhaltigkeitsforschung am Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS), sowie Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter und Emmy Noether Nachwuchsgruppenleiter am Arnold Bergstraesser Institut (ABI). Vorher war er Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Seminar für Wissenschaftliche Politik der Universität Freiburg und Carlo Schmid Fellow in der Crisis Prevention and Recovery Unit des Entwicklungsprogramms der Vereinten Nationen (UNDP) in Beirut. Im Rahmen seiner 2016 an der SOAS, University of London abgeschlossenen Promotion absolvierte er längere Feldforschungsaufenthalte in Jordanien, Belgien und den USA. Ben studierte Politikwissenschaft und Arabistik an der Universität Leipzig, American University of Beirut und SOAS. In seiner Forschung untersucht er transregionale autoritäre Praktiken und Interventionen durch einen Fokus auf die politische Ökonomie von erneuerbaren Energieprojekten in der MENA-Region, US-Amerikanische und Europäische Bemühungen zur ‚Demokratieförderung‘ in Jordanien, und US-Amerikanisch-Jordanische Militärkollaboration. Seine Veröffentlichungen erschienen unter anderem in Globalizations, International Studies Quarterly, Cooperation and Conflict, und Security Dialogue. Sein Buch ‚Promoting Democracy, Reinforcing Authoritarianism: US and European Policy in Jordan’ wurde 2019 bei Cambridge University Press veröffentlicht und erhielt positive reviews in Democratization und Middle East Journal. Aktuell leitet er am ABI in Freiburg eine DFG-finanzierte Emmy Noether Forschergruppe zum Thema ‚Erneuerbare Energien, Erneuerte Autoritarismen? Die Politische Ökonomie von Solarenergie in der MENA-Region‘.
