A Speculative Model for the Hydrophobic Interaction
The insolubility of hydrocarbons in water is a result of the hydrophobic interaction. This force, which has important consequences in many areas and is a dominant player in biology, has remained somewhat poorly understood. In this presentation, we shall discuss a tentative model for its origin in terms of the disruption of the hydrogen bonding network of water.
