Björn Bartels was born in Bad Oldesloe (Schleswig-Holstein, Germany) in 1984. He studied physics at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg from 2005 to 20011. In 2008/09 he was exchange student at Université Joseph Fourier Grenoble where he worked on his project "Quantum Hall Effect under Microwave Excitation" with Thierry Champel at CNRS Grenoble. In 2011 he finished his studies in Würzburg with a diploma thesis on "Decoherence of Interacting Quantum Systems" with Haye Hinrichsen. Bartels joined Junior Fellow Florian Mintert's group at FRIAS as PhD student in October 2011.
