Born 1962. Studied German Literature and Musicology. Recieved his PhD in 1992. 1993–1999 Assistant Professor. Habilitation 1998. 1999–2005 University teacher. Since 2005 apl. Professor/Akademischer Oberrat at the German Department of the Univeristy of Freiburg, 2007–2013 as a chair substitute. Books about the German “Versepos” in the 18^th Century (Diss., 1993), about the reception of Baroque around 1800 (Habil. 2000), about Dürrenmatt’s Die Physiker (2010), Schiller’s Kabale und Liebe (2011) and Hauptmann’s Vor Sonnenaufgang (2013). As an coeditor: Ariosto: Die Historia vom Rasenden Roland. 3 vol. 2002; Zigler: Die Asiatische Banise. 2011. Homburg: Clio. 2 Bde. 2013. FRIAS Research Project

Christoph Martin Wieland’s material and immaterial legacy: Digital reconstruction and historical contextualization

I will use the time of my Internal Senior Fellowship to complete a monograph on Christoph Martin Wieland‘s material and immaterial legacy, drawing on extensive preliminary work. The study has a twofold focus: First, it aims at reflecting thoroughly on the experiences made in the work with data-based reconstructions of author’s libraries and the methods used as well as putting them in the context of current research in the digital humanities. By doing so, I will include the experiences from my completed project on Wieland’s Digital Library (funded by the Thyssen foundation) and my current project Catalogus Bibliothecae Gryphianae. Second, I will discuss the specific results in a broader context by linking the analysis of Wieland’s private library with his material and immaterial legacy in order to gain a deeper understanding of his working methods and their historical and social background.
