The state of Baden-Württemberg has officially declared its commitment to contribute to the long-term funding of FRIAS, a step that will see it support the new concept for the institute as presented by the university. The decision was announced by Minister of Science Theresia Bauer in Stuttgart. (State’s press release [in German]) According to the Minister, there is no mistaking the excellent quality of FRIAS’s work, its academic potential and international repute. The Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts and the university have made a joint appeal to the Federal Government of Germany for it, too, to contribute financially to the joint venture.

Support from the state is vital in ensuring that the institute can continue its successful work in the long run and further develop its guiding principles. Professor Werner Frick, the Speaker of the FRIAS Board of Directors, stated that, "Over the past five years, FRIAS has developed into an internationally renowned research college which has forged links the world over. The fact that it can now be continued will benefit both the university and the Upper Rhine region’s entire academic landscape. The Founding Board of Directors, whose work will come to an end in October, wishes the future directors of the institute every possible success for the tasks ahead!"

In recent weeks, plans that have been long in the making have come into fruition thanks to the acquisition of 3.3 million euros of third-party funding from the EU for fellowship programmes run solely at FRIAS as well as support for groups of fellows working together from FRIAS and the University of Strasbourg's Institut d’Études Avancées (University of Strasbourg Institute for Advanced Study – USIAS). These successes have once again proven FRIAS’s academic appeal and its position as an international beacon of excellence for the Albert Ludwig University.
